Designed to be Relaxing The right design in the right place can set the right atmosphere for a positive experience. Learn how one local salon and spa has used its interior design to give customers a complete relaxation experience. A woman doesn't go to a salon and spa just for the products. She goes there for the experience, and Tuscany Spa - Salon understands and responds to that desire.
Besides a fully trained staff and a menu of extensive services, Tuscany provides customers with a comfortable atmosphere. "It's a warm and very soothing environment," Vice President of Operations Liz Reaney says.
The Tuscany decor satisfies a customer's need for serenity while it simultaneously allows that same customer to escape for a while into a Tuscan getaway. "People are so stressed with family issues and money issues, and people come in here for a bit of an escape," Reaney says. The relaxation room features a finely textured wall that gives the space a stucco feeling that is so common in Italian architecture.
But the escape doesn't end at the wall. Tuscany brought in an artist to paint a mural in the "piazza" area, or waiting area. Now customers can enjoy a rich Tuscan landscape as they await their salon or spa appointment. Once their appointment time arrives, customers can continue their mental escape through the artwork that adorns the Tuscany walls that features painted landscapes.
The artwork ties into the overall design of the salon and spa with its colors. Instead of using the cold feel of grays and stainless steel, Tuscany uses a color palette of gold tones, browns and burgundies to make the salon and spa more "warm and welcoming," Reaney says.
These earth tones create a more natural environment that contributes to the overall tranquility of the salon and promotes the sophisticated and upscale image on which Tuscany prides itself. "You look
around and see it," Reaney says. "You know you're going to be taken care of."
This calming sense doesn't have to reside only in the walls of Tuscany, however. Reaney has brought the serenity to her own home by using a similar color palette. She has used a combination of painting and wall papering to bring the earthy tones to life on the walls of her abode. The key is to use paint techniques to create texture to the walls, Reaney says. One technique that she has used is to paint a wall with gold and then brush over with rough brush strokes in a terracotta-colored paint.
So whether you create the serenity in your own space or head to Tuscany for a day of relaxation, enjoy the delights of design.
