KanDace Price has two loves: cosmetology and charity. So, she jumped at the opportunity to participate in the "Hair Affair to Remember," a hair show fundraiser for Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart. "When I found out that is was to give back, I was all for it," she says.
Founded by Sister Bonnie Steinlage more than 20 years ago, the non-profit organization provides professional hair care to homeless or disabled men, women and children. The organization serves 1,700 in the salon and 1,200 with the voucher program, Steinlage says. Operating costs are covered through various grants and fundraisers such as the Hair Affair to Remember hair show.
This year's hair show fundraiser took place April 2, at The Centennial Barn in Wyoming. The event featured an elegant dinner, live music and a fabulous hair show featuring hair artistry by local hair stylists and cosmetology students.
One of those participating students was Price. Through Sister Bonnie's work with Cincinnati Academy of Paul Mitchell Partner School, where Price studied, she told Price about the hair show and encouraged her to get involved.

More than 20 stylists submitted looks to be featured and judged in the show, and more than 200 attendees came to enjoy the event. Tickets were $50 each, and all proceeds benefitted Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart. The funds support Steinlage's work, the voucher program and the new Over the Rhine-based facility at 1800 Logan St.
Steinlage says the hair show is vital to the continued growth and success of Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart. One success story in particular came full circle. One man, who first came to Steinlage in the depths of a serious drug problem, is now a business owner and serves on the board of Franciscan Haircuts from the Heart.
"A haircut doesn't sound like much," Steinlage says. "But if you haven't had one in a while it changes your life to have one when you need it most." More articles by this author
